Pajama Sunday December 12th

The Third Sunday of Advent takes a break from the heaviness of the season with the lighting of a rose-colored candle instead of the regular purple candles during Advent. We remember Mary – Mom! – and the shepherds who were visited by angels & told, “Be not afraid. We bring you good news of GREAT JOY which will be to all the people.”  Let’s enJOY the day & each other while recalling our Zoom…

From the rector

Dear people of St Peter’s,   Next week the season of Lent commences with Ash Wednesday, the 10:00 am service in the church building and the 6:30 pm Ecumenical Service at First Untied Methodist Church. Coventry Cross is hosting a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper the evening prior at 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm. If anyone can bring bacon, sausage, or juice, that would be lovely.   The first Sunday of Lent is March 1st. Sunday services open with the Penitential Order –…

History arrives

A long awaited project for St. Peter’s has reached completion. An official historical marker now sets out the details of our Rectory, the residence of the first Nevada State Governor. It took the persistent efforts of a trio of parishioners to “bring it home.” Hallie Murphy secured the donation of the stone building blocks. Gayle Bowers persuaded a donation of the masonry work to put it together. Marilyn Peshek persisted in tracking down and securing the plaque itself, long ago…

Karma Box at St. Peter’s

On Sunday, January 12, Preston Emborsky, grandson of parishioners Tom and Isobel Streenan, unveiled his Eagle Scout project at our 10:00 am service. Preston built seven Karma Boxes to be distributed throughout Carson City. A Karma Box can be filled with non-perishable food items, toiletries, and warm clothing for the winter, and water in the summer. Anyone in need can take whatever is in the box, and those who are more fortunate can donate. Father Jeff gave the blessing, reminding…

From the Rector

Dear people of St Peter’s, May blessings abound in the new year. May we be ever present to the sufferings, the cruelties, the joys, the wonders of the world around us, ‘…this fragile earth, our island home.’ May we continue to find creative solutions to the hurts of our world. May we say ‘yes’ when called upon and ‘no’ when we must. May we give ourselves permission to check out when our spiritual tanks are empty and resources are depleted,…

Advent Musings

On a cold December Thursday, after Morning Prayer at Coventry Cross, The Rev. Elizabeth Tattersall showed me a felt banner called Our Advent Journey made by Deb Rogers-McCabe, one of her parishioners. The flames detach and can be added each week. I immediately ordered one and will use it next year in Sunday School. So clever! Then I realized the words are not the same as what we share each Sunday in Advent at the 10:00 service. So, I started…

Children Help Others

Congratulations to our Sunday School children, who over the course of two weeks raised $1,001.50 for the “Gifts for Life Children’s Care Package” organized by Episcopal Relief and Development. Empower communities to help children up to age six thrive and achieve their full potential: care for five moms & their newborns; nurture & nourishment for 12 children; clean water for a family; mosquito nets & training for 10 families; and four savings & loan group memberships. Gifts for Life Children’s…

Quilt Raffle Winner

Congratulations to the winner of the Quilt Raffle, Deacon Veronica Galas! Runners-up were parishioners Tina Galhaut and Belinda Grant, both of whom attend 8:00 am Sunday service. Through the diligent work of our ticket sales rep Marilyn Peshek, we reached a record high of $941 gross in sales. And, of course, we could not have done it without the wonderful contribution of former parishioner Terry Dezort, designer and creator of our Holiday Bazaar quilts. Over the course of 14 years,…
